RateGenius, the nation’s leading auto refinancing platform, has raised over $15,000 for Communities in Schools (CIS) Central Texas Ready for School Supply Drive, exceeding its original fundraising goal of $10,000.

“Communities in Schools works inside and outside local schools to promote student success, so it was a natural choice for RateGenius,” said CEO Christopher Speltz. “Several of our employees and their families have been volunteers or have been recipients of the organization’s tutoring and self-help coaching services.”

Employees and partners raised a total $15,143.10 via cash donations, a silent auction, and a raffle. Funds raised from the school supply drive helped provide students with backpacks, headphones, laptops, and tablets, in addition to general school supplies and hygiene products.

After an extensive search into Austin-area non-profit organizations, CIS was selected by RateGenius’ Minority Majority Action Committee (MMAC), the company’s all-minority employee group, for its culture and platform that inspires constant learning and self-improvement, as well as its commitment to break down systemic barriers.

Gayle Malvern, RateGenius HR generalist and founding member of the MMAC, explained, “Though we were strategic about choosing this partner, it would almost seem like fate. Our mission here at RateGenius is one of service to our community, and the collective goal for MMAC is to represent and serve our society’s consistently marginalized populations. Communities in Schools’ model is built on serve to the community — particularly the underserved. It’s important work and a meaningful cause.”

RateGenius has worked with a number of charities and organizations over the years, but this is the first year partnering with CIS. Ongoing community partnerships include Texas Baptist Children’s Home, Austin Animal Center, Crawl for Cancer, Central Texas Food Bank, and MS Walk.
